By now, you’ve heard about Elliot Rodger, the 22-year-old man who went on a killing rampage because he was angry at men who were getting the sex that he wasn’t and women who didn’t desire him.
As much as I would love to get flip about this guy, it’s obvious that he was deeply troubled. I doubt that any amount of therapy or medication would have turned around his narcissism, anger, and sense of entitlement.
Rodger had quite an extreme case of sex rage, but he certainly isn’t the only man to get ignored by women and have an attitude about it.
In the online dating/hookup world, many guys like Rodger have an expectation that any woman online should be available to them. When I was active on online dating sites, I’d always hear from at least one guy who I’ll call HornySexGeek.

Typically, guys like him don’t put much effort in being attractive (and not just physically) suitors. They usually don’t have much information about themselves in their profiles. They also often ignore information in women’s profiles like age or lifestyle “requirements”.
If these guys wonder why women don’t respond to them it’s because they’re getting back to at least seven or eight other men who have made the effort to tell a woman something about themselves. They have no conception that they aren’t the only one looking to meet women score on the site.
Forty-five minutes later…
HornySexGeek: Hey. Why havent U gotten back to me? Send me a full body pic.
Twenty minutes? Are you really that important? And who are you to ask for a full body pic when you haven’t offered one of your own or don’t have a photo of yourself on your profile?
Two hours later…
HornySexGeek: U must be like all of the other fat ugly welfare chicks on this site. Good luck to U.

Amazing. I went from sounding nice to fat, ugly welfare chick in the span of about three hours. And if that’s his perception of women on that particular dating site or forum, why does he bother to waste his time? It’s obvious that he doesn’t respect and value women in the first place. Worse yet, guys like him don’t understand why women don’t give them the time of day.
I can understand, but not excuse, why guys like HornySexGeek or Rodger would have some anger issues if women ignored or dismissed them over a course of weeks, months or years.
