In this day and age, I always shake my head about why we have to do so much safer sex educating. Not just with teens, but parents of teens and people old enough to be grandparents. They all think that they’re immune from the risks of STIs because they’re good people and only associate and choose other good people as sex partners.
Tell that to a former client of mine, a health care administrator who recently dealt with the nightmare of having to test and treat a majority of its residents at an assisted living facility. The center now has a social worker/sex educator contractor to counsel and work with residents. That’s when you know that shit just got real.
Rambling aside, safer sex education is more important than ever. I don’t mean to get preachy about this stuff, and neither does Melissa White, CEO of Lucky Bloke. It’s why she has just launched a new website, SaferSex.education. It just went live yesterday.
“We want to provide accurate information about condoms while continuing the conversation about pleasure,” says Melissa, who’s written safer sex and condom articles for publications such as the Huffington Post, Bedsider and Your Tango.
In addition to writing original material for this new online adult sex education venture, Melissa has also tapped into a number of top-name sex bloggers and educators like Dr. Karen Rayne. I just loved her piece about getting past the awkwardness of talking about safer sex by turning the conversation into a Mad Libs sort of game.

Melissa also tapped JoEllen Notte, who some of you know is all about saving the world from mediocre sex as the Redhead Bedhead. She busted a lot of myths about emergency contraceptives, some of which even I believed.
The most important article you should read is one that Melissa urges readers to sign a petition calling on Twitter CEO Dick Costello (@DickC) to remove condoms from Twitter’s advertising blacklist.
Yep, condoms. They’re right alongside drugs, drug paraphernalia, weapons and weapon accessories.
To me, that kind of thinking gives a whole new meaning to WTF. The last I heard, condoms can save lives … and at least $250K over the course of 18 years.
Geez … no wonder why we have to do so much safer sex educating.
